Why is deforestation a problem?

When forests are logged down or disturbed, the trees will release the carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses they breathed in. Forest loss and damage are the cause of around 10% of global warming. The loss of trees and other vegetation can cause climate change, desertification, soil erosion, less crops, flooding, increased greenhouse gasses, and a host of problems. There’s simply no way we can fight the climate crisis if we don’t stop deforestation. We need to protect our forests before it is too late.

Our Chosen SDG

We chose the 13th SDG climate action, because this is one of the most important issues that we are currently encountering, and people are not taking this as seriously as they should.

The Issue

Climate change refers to a long-term shift in temperatures and weather patterns. It happens when greenhouse gasses enter the atmosphere and trap the heat causing global warming to happen. It is related to deforestation as well, since trees absorb greenhouse gasses. With less trees, there will be more greenhouse gasses and carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, which causes a variety of problems in our air quality.

If you’d love to help in our journey to spread awareness, here are some simple things you can do on a daily basis; plant a tree in a green/grass area, donate to trusted charities for deforestation, purchase products in which our money will be donated to trusted charities, use fewer papers at home and in your office/school, buy products that are easy to recycle and reuse products like plastic bottles.
